I had a vision of a sailor duck and made this guy in a flash! I think the beauty of this doll is in it’s simplicity. There’s really not much to him, but he is probably the most popular pattern I’ve come up with! He’s one of the patterns in the ZOOMIGURUMI book and almost made it onto the cover. (That would have been so awesome!)
Hi Amy!
Happy Chinese New Year!
Love your dolls, so cute and not too hard (I hope). I just learned about arigurumi a couple months ago when my daughter showed me some patterns. Haven’t crocheted in decades. I’m 57 now. But I wanted to see if I could do it and make dolls for my kids as keepsakes. I started with somebody’s else’s patterns, but I’m starting to run out of cute critters to make. I like tight clean stitches, not too much stuff on them. I’ve made a birdie, penquin, puppy, bunny, monkey (and banana), and a bumble bee so far! I was going to stop after 2. But it’s contagious. I just found your sailor duck. I love it! Simple yet cute. I don’t think I will have any problems. All basic stitches. I still have some problems with counting and changing colors neatly. How long did it take you to get good enough to make your own patterns? And you actually sold your dolls on Etsy? Did you make a decent living doing that? It would take me forever to make enough dolls.
